When asking and answering the question; ‘Who am I?, if we were brainstorming we could throw down, ‘we are not our body!’ and that would be correct. As people in the physical dimension, it is easy to identify with our bodies as the summation of us.
Heck, it’s how we identify with others, we see Tom down the street, we recognise him by the appearance of his body. So when we see Tom, we greet him and interact with him all the while believing that the person we are interacting with is the body which is standing in front of us. However, if you and Tom strike up a conversation, you’ll both have thoughts and feelings coming into and out of your consciousnesses as topics, themes and ideas are formed into words, observed in the reactions we perceive in each other’s body language and facial expressions.
And the truth be told what we bring into our interactions with others as well as with ourselves is transcendent of our physical bodies, our bodies are simply the hardware for which our personalities and character are the software, or should I say our personalities are the programme that gets played once our software is installed in the hardware of the body.
We could use another helpful analogy, you may have heard of the body being described as a vehicle. A form of transport for your consciousness in the 3rd dimension. And this makes sense as well; physical reality has limitations. Things in the physical dimension have expiry dates. However, consciousness is energy and ‘energy cannot be created or destroyed’. Therefore, your conscious and subconscious mind transcend the physical dimension and therefore, transcend the physical body.
Our Conscious Mind is our awareness in the present moment, however, our subconscious is a lot, it is in this realm that a huge amount of automatic processes go about their business until interrupted by consciousness. Much like the background programmes on your desktop when you’re not using them, they are still working in the background. However, because they are not what you are currently interfacing with they are not as it were on stage until later when you allow your attention to be brought back to the fact that your stomach which was full has now digested your last meal, and now hunger is drawing your attention back to what you may wish to eat next.
Soul, if you have Her, must be treated with immense respect, She is the essence and personification of your dreams, your Dream-Self, The Truth you are here to be. Coming into a deeper understanding of Her presence in your life is imperative to realise your full potential, the fullness of what is possible for you.
As men, in this plane we get to partake in a wonderful way in the creation of our offspring, but while we contribute in the initial spark that enabled another Soul to enter our realm, if the contributions which follow are simply from the perspective of what we can provide monetarily to contribute to the welfare and well-being of the seeds we’ve sown. In this dimension that is regarded as responsible and from a perspective of the ‘Agenda of the Body’ we have looked after us and ours in the 3rd dimension. However, this in and of itself may leave our Souls unacknowledged, unfulfilled and essentially – unrealised. To carry The Soul in your mortal body is a privilege of incalculable proportions. To recognise Her agenda and to honour that agenda. To be a vessel through which That Divine Spark can express Herself, for this we came. This is The Idea of a Man™, to discover and embrace the truth She wishes to live out through us, and this is why the Idea of a Man™ is just that, an Idea, because really there is no such thing as a man.
When we recognise that this 3rd Dimension is a temporal dimension, and the transcended dimensions, where our consciousness and divinity reside exist beyond 3D, we realise that these roles we assume and sometimes over identify with are just that, roles we identify with. Then the answer to the question, ‘Who am I?’ takes on a whole deeper significance because we recognise that the answer perhaps can not be realised in one sitting, it is an unfolding, it is a peeling back of the layers of the onion to realise the nectar beneath the petals and gold within the mine and the essential essence of our Divine Spark links our experience to The Eternal Mystery.
The mystery of existence can be overwhelming. A deeper relationship with our Souls however, anchors us, gives us a conversation with the aspect of ourselves which is also an aspect of all that is. Not to over anthropomorphise Source, but if Source holds a kaleidoscope and each time Source twist the kaleidoscope new possibilities emerge, Her Divine essence expressing Herself through you via your Soul is a twist of The Divine Kaleidoscope as it differentiates itself from every previous twist and turn and any subsequent twists and turns.
The unique you through the prism of the Divines vision is a feedback loop to Source. A feedback loop which Source is using to experience your life. Remember, there is ‘no separation’, therefore, the difference comes when this relationship becomes conscious and interactive. When you recognise that you are an intrinsic part of The Universe and that The Universe is someone you can interact with and be assisted by – the parameters of your possible evolve, and you get to partner with The Universe in realising your vision of an Idea of a Man™ which resonates truthfully with your internal frequency.

I believe that not only is this the basis of Practical Spirituality, but that the reason it is Practical Spiritually is because it is Practical Psychologically. Our Souls long for expression, and when the lives we live are out of sync with the Agenda of the Soul, I believe that this is when we suffer immense amounts of anxiety and depression which litter the mental emotional landscape of so many human entities.
Additionally this may be what leads to many more nefarious mental emotional maladies which spring from the excess of unresolved depression and anxiety. Therefore, developing better more integrated relationships with ourselves, which is essentially what we are doing when we enter into a relationship with our Souls is key to establishing our deep-truth, the truth of us that transcends what has been termed as the Straw Man, or the ego, the persona we have morphed into in response to the way in which life present us with the pressure of peers, – social acceptability, the influence of our upbringing upon our lives etc etc.
Therefore, hidden beneath these layers is a reality, a real us which so often we conceal and put into shadow. But this Truth seeks to get our attention, and when we ignore this through or suppress it, it causes us immense and unaccountable pain and internal suffering. This pain drives men into addictions, poor choices, regrettable behaviours and other symptoms, sometimes dis-ease is literally as a result of the uneasy internal state of unaddressed emotional truths that wish to be acknowledged and meaningfully integrated into our personalities and the lives we are living.
